Nos próximos dois meses o Departamento Nacional de Infraestrutura de Transportes – Dnit, vai instalar na Paraíba mais 20 pontos de fiscalização eletrônica, as chamadas lombadas ou barreiras eletrônicas. Até agora já foram implantados 16 pontos, de um total de 81 previstos para serem instalados em rodovias federais no Estado. Depois da região metropolitana de João Pessoa as lombadas eletrônicas vão ser instaladas na região de Campina Grande e na seqüência, em trechos de rodovias no Cariri e Sertão.
Redução de acidentes e mortes - O engenheiro Ítalo Marques Filizola, que é supervisor substituto de operações do Dnit, revela que após a instalação das primeiras 16 lombadas eletrônicas entre Cabedelo e João Pessoa, as estatísticas realizadas em conjunto com a Polícia Rodoviária Federal mostram que os acidentes tiveram redução de 40%. Os acidentes com morte caíram 50% e o número de pessoas feridas teve redução de 45%.
No início de março a Polícia Rodoviária Federal na Paraíba divulgou o balanço sobre os números de janeiro e fevereiro deste ano. Um total de 623 pessoas foram multadas por dirigirem sem possuir habilitação.
A PRF registrou no primeiro bimestre do ano 626 acidentes, com 369 feridos e 41 mortes. O número de acidentes foi 10,79% menor ao registrado no mesmo período de 2011, quando ocorreram 713 acidentes, com 439 feridos e 30 mortes. As principais causas dos acidentes foram falta de atenção com 194 ocorrências, seguido por 57 acidentes por não manter a distância de segurança do veículo da frente, 41 foram ocasionados pela combinação perigosa entre ingestão de bebidas alcoólicas e direção veicular e 38 ocorreram por excesso de velocidade.
Outra notificação que aparece como destaque é dirigir sob o efeito de álcool, na qual 185 pessoas foram notificadas. Dessas pessoas flagradas dirigindo sob efeito de álcool, 79 acabaram presas por estarem com o teor de álcool acima de 0,29 mg/l.
